Roller Derby
Born in the United States in the 1930s, roller derby first appeared as a very popular sport‑spectacle. After a decline in the 1970s, it re‑emerged in the early 2000s in a modern form in the United States. In 2004, the creation of the WFTDA structured the discipline and accelerated its international growth, notably in Europe and Canada.
Roller derby is a full‑contact team sport played on an oval track (most often flat). Two teams of five skaters face off: a jammer scores points by passing opponents, while blockers form a pack to help or stop the jammer.
